Field tripping is our favorite way to spend the days. The area around our homestead is prime habitat for many migratory species. The central coast of California provides a huge range of habitats. Several Endangerd species are residents. Winter and Spring are the best seasons.
The Carrizo Plains National Monument is 30 minutes, south, from my home. Morro Bay and its fine estuary is just 45 minutes to the West. Between them is the supurb Central Coast Wine Country. Curlews to Condor…..Kit Fox to Kingfishers…Loons to Leopard Lizards…Sea Otters to Sandhill Cranes….and a bit of wine tasting between.
Also within our reach is Hearst Castle and the Nipomo Dunes….and, of course, the San Andreas Fault.
Having grown up in a family that viewed the natural world as the most important part of life, I have been field tripping forever. I have a good grasp of the natural history of the area and would love to share it with you. If you have a particular area of interest, let me know and I can organize specialized trip leaders who will have the information you need. I know the land between the central coast and the San Joaquin Valley the best. However, I have friends all across the west who could work with us to make your trip a fine memory. We can even make it a catered expedition if that is your desire.
We can arrange trips of as many days as you wish. I have been field tripping through this part of the world for 64 years and have never been bored. We have a bunkhouse that sleeps 7 and 9 in a pinch. Let us know what you want and we will make it happen!
So, if you find yourself in the Central Coast of California and you want to see beyond the tourist area, let us know. It would be a pleasure to show you our Central Coast.
